I moved in summer of 2006. Sadly, one of my cats passed away 3 weeks after I moved into my new home.
So, here are the remaining felines who own my home. The photos were taken in my new home. Too bad these cats can't figure out how to pay the mortgage since they are CERTAIN this place is theirs!! These guys are CJ (left) and Shrinky (right).
CJ came my way a few years ago after a friend heard I was looking for a friendly kitty.
She's really, really wound up 90% of the time but is also a good lap cat. She purrs and plays often. She actually comes when called. She chases me when I walk and bites my ankles. She's gotten stepped on several times because she does a figure 8 on my legs when I'm walking.
She is a real diva and has this big poofy tail going all the time. She has started "talking" a lot more since I've moved in the house. That's just great until 2 a.m. when I'm trying to sleep!
Contrary to popular belief of my friends, "CJ" does not stand for anything. She just looks like a CJ, so that is her name. Her name was "kitty" when I got her, and I just couldn't have that.

Shrinky's real name is Nrsimhadeva (pronounced nur-shring-ha-dave), which is the name of the Hindu half-man, half lion protection deity. My father couldn't exactly pronounce the cat's name, so we simplified things a little and nicknamed him Shrinky. He answers to either. I also call him The Orange Thing, Boy (like Foghorn Leghorn) and some other unmentionable names since he is capable of causing great disarray. Hint: NEVER name your cat after a deify who has ANYTHING to do with destruction!
Shrinky is a big boy now and the name Shrinky is not accurate. He's at 22 pounds at last count but the vet said he was just big, not overweight.
I got him when he was a kitten and he sure was cute. Shrinky was born under the shed next to my house and adopted me. He came to me with blue eyes and orange fur and a real attitude problem. He now has orange eyes and an awfully prissy attitude. In short, he thinks he is God. He looks like a little lion sometimes. The photo at the top is most recent.
These guys love the new house and love the new screened in porch. CJ lays on the porch swing and Shrinky likes the concrete floor (I don't think he's all there... he likes to lick plastic bags too). They want to be out on the porch all the time, even though the weather is cooling off. At first, Shrink was scared of the porch and of anything else outside. He'd spent his entire life inside and never seen another animal (other than my other cats). But now he loves being outside and goes on "bug patrol" for me all the time.
My new house is all hardwood and tile. One of the funniest things is watching these guys try to run. They just haven't gotten the hang of it yet. They both still try to take off doing 80 and all that happens is their little claws scrape really fast against the floor and they go nowhere quickly. It's hysterical.
At night we all settle down on the porch to watch the moon rise or settle down in front of the TV. Inevitably, I wake up hours later with both cats parked on my legs or chest just snoozing away.
In Memorial: Mitnik 1996 (?) - 2006
My cat Mitty passed away 3 weeks after I moved into my new home. Mitty was adopted after my cat of 18 years, Columbia (she's on my old, clunky website), passed away. She was a valuable member of my family - it was a real blow and I still miss her so much. I think she'd had cancer for some time and the stress of the move finally pushed her over the edge. The short time she had in the new house she was very happy on the screened in porch. I'm making a garden this spring in the backyard to honor her life.
Rest in Peace, Mitty. I miss you.
