Lower Tahquamenon Falls, Fall 2006

Amber water rushes over the Lower Falls. Indian lore states the name Tahquamenon came from the water's amber color. The color is actually derived from leaching of tanic acid from the many hemlock and cedar swamps that join the river.

The Upper Falls boast the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. Niagara is the largest.
