Tamarack Tree, Fall 2006

At first I was pretty certain there was something really wrong with this tree... and a whole lot of other trees like it in the area. It looked like a pine tree to me and healthy pine trees aren't supposed to be yellow. I asked around and learned this is a tamarack (not a pine) and it does turn gold every fall and lose its needles.

Here's a whole bunch of them together (right). Kind of blend in to the grass, don't they? They were a very brilliant, beautiful gold against the blue sky in the rainbow picture.
